Why Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care is widely recognized as one of the world's safest, non-invasive, drug-free therapies available to treat neck pain, back pain, joint pain, headaches, and other neuromusculoskeletal issues. Chiropractic is based on the thesis that good overall health and mobility are directly tied to a normally functioning nervous system and a healthy spine. A chiropractor seeks to identify nerve interference and adjust vertebrae accordingly to remove that interference (subluxation); which allows the nerves to work properly, helping to promote better overall health. It's said that the weight of a quarter pressing against a nerve is enough to disrupt its proper function.

A chiropractor's main tools are his/her hands. We manually manipulate joints of the patient's body (usually the spine) to restore function and reduce pain. Many people feel immediate relief following a chiropractic adjustment. Some may feel some mild soreness after, similar to the feeling commonly felt after exercise. This typically will dissipate within 24 hours.

Often the question has been asked, "Are chiropractors real doctors?". The answer is yes. According to the American Medical Colleges Curriculum Directory, a MD (Medical Doctor) receives 2047 total classroom hours, while a DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) receives 2419 hours, including 408 hours in diagnosis (compared to 113) and 271 hours reading x-rays (compared to 13). Additionally, as a profession, chiropractors choose not to prescribe medication. Despite these differences, DC's and MD's actually work quite well together, and many of our new patient referrals come from MD's.
