Chiropractic

The Doctor of Chiropractic accepts the responsibility of locating, reducing, and correcting spinal subluxations. This is done through a series of chiropractic adjustments, or manipulation, specifically designed to correct subluxations of the spine. Chiropractic physicians have spent many years of learning and training to become the expert at correcting subluxations.

A vertebral subluxation is when one or more of the bones of your spine (vertebrae) move out of their normal position and create pressure on, or irritate spinal nerves. There are 24 bones that make up your spine and between each adjacent bone; spinal nerves exit the spinal cord on both sides. Any pressure or irritation of these spinal nerves causes a malfunction to occur and signals traveling out from those nerves are interfered with, or interrupted. The best visual explanation of the pressure buildup that occurs with a vertebral subluxation is to think about a garden hose. Without kinks, the water flows normally and easily, but begin to bend the hose and the flow of water slows. As that bend in the hose gets harder and sharper, the water flow continues slowing until there is just a trickle left. The hose represent the spinal nerves, the water represents the flowing information and signals, and the kink represents the effects of a spinal subluxation.

Dry Needling

Dr. Byrne has recently been certified by the to perform Dry Needling for Pain Management and Sports Rehabilitation. Integrative Dry Needling is a highly effective form of therapy for the treatment of a multitude of health issues.  Dry needling is a modern treatment designed to ease muscular pain. Its popularity is growing for pain control and function.

During dry needling, a practitioner inserts several filiform needles into your skin. Filiform needles are fine, short, stainless steel needles that don’t inject fluid into the body. That’s why the term “dry” is used.

Practitioners place the needles in “trigger points” in your muscle or tissue. Dry needling is also sometimes called intramuscular stimulation. The points are areas of knotted or hard muscle.

Dry needling practitioners say the needle helps release the knot and relieve any muscle pain or spasms. The needles will remain in your skin for a short period of time. The length of time depends on the practitioner. Some healthcare professionals, such as physical therapists and massage therapists, receive some training in dry needling.

Nutrition

Eating healthy does not have to be boring, and it is a crucial element of our health. What we put into our bodies is directly related to our health status, and how our body is able to perform necessary processes. We look to our food as not only fuel for our bodies, but as sources for necessary nutrients to keep our organs functioning, our bodies moving, and our brains operating.

Many of us do not have the proper knowledge to maintain proper nutrition habits, as we are unaware of what types of food help certain body parts or processes. Additionally, we are inundated with foods that are filled with processed components, fillers, preservatives, and other harmful ingredients that contribute to poor health outcomes.

Nutrition and chiropractic care go hand in hand. Without proper nutrition, chiropractic care can only do so much. It is important to pay attention to both aspects of your health and ensure that nutrition is not only a complement to chiropractic care, but that it is working together to bring about the best outcomes possible. Dr. Byrne offers the following services.
  • Consultations
  • Dietary Recommendations
  • Lifestyle Modifications
